INTRODUCTION

ALOHA SHIRTS ORIGINATE
FROM KIMONO

起源は日本の着物roots

Japanese immigrants to Hawaii from the 19th to 20th centuries were engaged in sugar plant and agriculture. They used palaka shirts (open-collared shirts said to have been worn by European sailors) as work clothes because of their similarity to Japanese cotton kasuri. When the kimonos and yukatas they brought with them became old, they would use the scraps to tailor paraka-style shirts for their children. The unique colors and patterns of the kimono became popular among the local people, and gradually, open-necked shirts tailored from new kimono and yukata fabrics became popular, giving rise to the aloha shirt as we know it today.

ABOUT

SHARING JAPANESE CULTURE
THROUGH KIMONO ALOHA

着物アロハで纏う日本文化culture

Unfortunately, in today's Japan, only a few people wear kimonos, and there are many more people who easily dispose of their kimonos. We wanted to preserve this important Japanese culture, so we went back to the old days and tailored aloha shirts from vintage kimonos, so that anyone can pick one up and wear it easily. Each kimono is individually unraveled, carefully washed, and meticulously matched to fit the current era, and sewn with a fold-down stitching method so that there are no seams on the reverse side. The aloha shirt made of silk is very soft and comfortable to wear. The pattern of the kimono is also elegant and classy.

TAILOR

CAREFULLY TAILORED
SILK ALOHA SHIRT

丁寧に仕立てたシルクアロハtailored

We cannot make a large number of kimono aloha at one time because each kimono aloha is carefully tailored by hand. This may be contrary to the current times, but we believe that time is the heart. We want to deliver the important culture of Japan with care and attention. We make our products with this in mind. We named this initiative the KABUKIMONO Project, a play on the words “kimono” and "kabuki actor. We believe that when you try on our sleeves, you will definitely feel the wonderful smooth comfort of silk.
